Privacy policy
This policy explains what data the EcuaNews app collects, why, and how you can delete it. This is a translation; if it differs from the Spanish text, the Spanish text applies. NewsBite24 (Ecuador) is responsible for your data under Ecuador's Organic Law on Personal Data Protection.
1. What we collect
- Account (if you create one): name, email and, if you sign in with Google, your Google profile picture. Your password is stored encrypted; we never see it.
- Approximate location (only if you allow it): your city or area, to show local news. Never your exact location. Turn it off in Profile → Use my location.
- How you use the app: which stories you read and for how long, what you search for, when you open the app, which stories you save, share or like, and taps on ads. Without an account this is counted per phone, without your name.
- Device and connection: an installation id, the code used to send you notifications, your phone's make, model and system version, the app version, language, time zone, network type (Wi-Fi or mobile data) and provider, and your IP address with the city or area it comes from.
- App errors: crash reports, so we can fix them.
We do not collect: your exact location, contacts, messages, photos or files on your phone, or payment details.
2. Why we use it
- To run the app: your account, saved stories, the Today section, local news and notifications.
- To learn which stories interest readers and improve the app.
- To count ad views and taps. Advertisers get totals only, never who you are.
- To protect the app from abuse (for example, too many accounts from one phone).
- To send emails you need: your sign-up code, a password change or a new sign-in alert.
The legal basis is your consent (location, notifications), the contract with you when you create an account, and our legitimate interest in keeping the app safe and working.
3. Who we share it with
We do not sell your data or give it to other companies for their own use. We use providers that handle it only on our behalf:
- Google Firebase: notifications and crash reports;
- Brevo: sending emails;
- Cloudflare and our server host: hosting and website security.
Some of these providers are outside Ecuador; we work with them under suitable safeguards. We may hand over data when a competent authority requires it by law.
4. How long we keep it
- Your account data, for as long as you have the account. When you delete it, it is erased at once.
- If you delete your account, your reads and shares are kept for statistics, without your name, IP address or device. Ad taps are counted without any link to you.
- IP addresses are kept for 24 months, then erased.
- Reading details (what and how long you read, searches and app opens) are kept for 13 months; after that only daily totals remain.
- Server technical logs are deleted within 90 days.
5. Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, delete or move your data, object to its use, and withdraw your consent at any time.
- Delete your account: Profile → Settings → Account → Delete account, or without the app.
- Anything else: write to support@newsbite24.com. We answer within 15 days.
If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can contact Ecuador's Superintendency of Personal Data Protection.
6. Security
All data travels encrypted (HTTPS), and access to it is limited to the people on our team who need it.
7. Children
The app is for people aged 13 and over. If we learn an account belongs to someone younger, we delete it.
8. Changes
If we change this policy, we update this page's date and, if the change is important, tell you in the app.
9. If you read from another country
EcuaNews can be installed in any country. We handle your data the same way wherever you are, and you keep the rights your local law gives you. If you live in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you also have the rights of the GDPR: to see, correct or delete your data, to object to its use, and to complain to your data protection authority. To use them, write to support@newsbite24.com.
